Norway Andreas Lie and the Guardians of the Deep Forest | The Citrus Report

In this series of animal portraits by Andreas Lie  the texture of forests, mountains, and skies are blended into the fur of the animals portrayed. Based out of Norway, Lie uses a double exposure technique to merge the two photographs together in an organic way. As the form of the animal fades into the landscapes that it roams, a unifying energy between the two images emerges. Here’s a selection of 10 portraits that we’d thought you’d like.

Saturdays @ Rose Theatre

“The Rose Theatre was built in 1587 but was only discovered in 1989 during excavations for new office buildings. Two-thirds of the original site were discovered, and the public formed a campaign to ‘Save the Rose’ and protect it from redevelopment. The Rose was the first of four playhouses to be built at Bankside.

Shakespeare’s company, which was based at the nearby Globe Theatre also played here. During the summer months Shakespeare’s Globe brings tours to the Rose  every day except Monday, and the tours encompass both the Globe Exhibition and the site of the Rose.

Fundraising to fully excavate the site is still ongoing, and in the meantime, visitors can explore a light and sound exhibition, with a video narrated by Sir Ian Mckellan. There is also large scale model of the Rose Theatre as it might have been in 1587.”

USA: Artist turns used paintbrushes into ladies from famous paintings

“For San Francisco-based artist Rebecca Szeto, a paintbrush isn’t just her medium, it’s her canvas as well. Instead of just painting to create an artwork, she uses brushes as artworks themselves! By carving out the handles of used paintbrushes, she turns these unsuspecting materials into the ladies from famous paintings, complete with skirts and dresses made from bristles soaked in paint.

‘These works play with notions of re-forming beauty and value’, says Szeto. ‘I use humble, end-of-life, mass-produced materials inspired by my experience as a faux finisher. The paintbrush is self-referential, acting as both subject and object. It refers to the history of painting, through the medium of paint, with its own tool’.”
